A commonplace expression, which brings me a sort of relief: “It is what it is,” and all I can do is accept things the way they are.
Fears that usually never materialize often get me worked up. My mind has a life of it’s own and it can take me to bleak and dark places if I allow myself to wallow in the those events that are not to my liking. My imagination takes over and the worst case scenarios occupy my mind. But I have found that when I think about the impossibility of controlling outcomes, the acceptance of the situation and reminding myself what Julius Caesar said: “Men worry more about what they can’t see than about what they can,” sets me back on the reality track.
We choose those quotes that help us along and to live with the cards we are dealt. I find that “It is what it is,” is a simple yet powerful quote that wakes me from too much concern and worry.
Everything will be ok. The worst thing that can happen is exactly what? We don’t know, unless of course, we think of death as the worst. Taken to such extreme, our worries shrink.
