“I’m getting old and tired of chasing setting suns.”

These are part of the lyrics by Passenger from the song “Setting Suns.” It may sound sad, but actually it’s comforting to listen to songs that I can identify with and are real. Lyrics, music can help us feel and hold us by the hand when we find ourselves reflecting on life or experiencing the Sunday blues.Sometimes lyrics can help us heal a heavy heart, soothing us by making us feel we are not unique in how we feel and this is what we need, to feel part of humanity, to know that suffering is shared and universal.

As the title says, “I’m getting old and tired of chasing setting suns,” too. I cannot run after much of anything at this point. I’m tired and need the comfort of “now.”

“Music can lift us out of depression or move us to tears – it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. But for many of my neurological patients, music is even more – it can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For them, music is not a luxury, but a necessity.”
