Give it time and you’ll often ask yourself where it all went. Was it real? Was it worth it? Was it a dream or a nightmare? In any case, time brings with it varying perspectives as we become more detached.
Was it worth the fight, the trouble, the sleepless nights, the worry? Frequently, the answer is it wasn’t, especially if you tend to the negative. In which case, you might think that life is just a series of unfortunate meaningless crises to be endured.
If, on the other hand, you are of the optimistic type, you somehow decide to see it as an opportunity to learn a lesson so as not to go through the same ordeal again.
As optimistic as I try to be by brushing off painful experiences, I tend to ping-pong from one side of the table to the other. Some days I feel grateful for what happened and other times I ask myself WTF was I thinking? But this later attitude changes nothing, only making my life more miserable.
It really doesn’t matter that much. We have days in which misery floods us, and inevitably we may only see the dark side. On sunnier days, we sit and accept the defeat and move on.
Was it worth it? Maybe we should just ignore the question and allow life to take its own course. Think less and move forth as best we can. Some questions are best left unanswered if they will only cause us more pain.
